Context
The demand for workers in the logistics sector continues to grow in both Flanders and the Netherlands. The sector faces challenges such as difficulties in attracting new employees, retaining skilled staff, and keeping up with rapid technological developments in the labor market. These challenges have led to a mismatch between the skills employers are seeking and those employees possess.
This project focuses on warehouse workers employed in companies with logistics activities, specifically targeting low-skilled and non-native newcomers. The goal is to future-proof this group by developing the right skills and providing suitable learning opportunities.
Project Objectives
The project aims to strengthen the skills of (future) warehouse workers so that they meet evolving business needs. The main objectives are:
Identify the required hard and soft skills for warehouse workers.
Develop an effective learning offer for warehouse workers, with a focus on low-skilled and non-native newcomers, as well as for future warehouse workers.
Approach
The project applies a multi-method approach to implement different activities:
Mapping out skill forecasts and learning needs.
Developing learning materials for (future) warehouse workers.
Engaging various stakeholders such as employers, educational institutions, and learners.
The process and deliverables are developed, tested, evaluated, and refined iteratively, inspired by the service design methodology. By working closely with pilot companies, we create meaningful solutions that meet the needs of all stakeholders in the logistics sector.
Expected Outcomes
Development of a toolkit with seven tools or immersive learning materials such as knowledge clips and a virtual warehouse environment.
Train-the-trainer programs to ensure effective integration of the learning materials.
